High luminous efficiency
The luminous efficiency of LEDs themselves has already reached over 130 lm/W, so the overall luminous efficiency of LED ceiling lamps can already reach 100 lm/W. Moreover, this efficiency is still increasing every year. It is estimated that by 2020, the luminous efficiency of LEDs themselves will reach 240 lm/W. High luminous efficiency means energy saving. According to actual measurements, an 8W LED can replace a 32W ceiling lamp. The electric power can be saved by more than four times.
long lifespan
The lifespan of an LED is 100,000 hours. When made into a lighting fixture, its actual recognized lifespan is at least 30,000 hours, and high-quality ones can last up to 50,000 hours, which is more than 10 times longer than fluorescent lamps. Even the very long-lasting tricolor fluorescent lamps have a lifespan of 10,000 hours, which is still more than five times longer.
Does not contain toxic substances such as mercury
While everyone focuses on the advantages of LED light sources, such as high luminous efficiency and energy saving, a very important advantage of LED lighting - mercury-free - is often overlooked. We know that mercury is a toxic substance, yet almost all electric light sources used before 2012 contained mercury, whether it was common fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, or high-pressure mercury or metal halide lamps.
Mercury has a very low boiling point and can evaporate at room temperature. When a discarded light source is broken, it immediately releases mercury vapor into the surrounding air, instantly increasing the mercury concentration in the air to 10-20 mg/m³, which is 1000 to 2000 times higher than the prescribed allowable concentration of mercury in the air (0.01 mg/m³). According to research on mercury conducted by Stanford University in the United States, 1 mg of mercury is sufficient to pollute 5454.5 kg of drinking water, rendering it unfit for human consumption. The consequences of mercury-induced air and water pollution are severe. When ingested by aquatic organisms, it forms CH3Hg, a highly toxic substance that can be lethal to humans with just half a teaspoon. Mercury itself can damage the central nervous system, and its reproductive effects are also very serious. Mercury can also harm the kidneys and liver, and in sufficient doses, it can even cause death. Mercury can be transferred in various ways in soil, water streams, and even the atmosphere and food chain. Therefore, its persistence, ease of migration, and high bioaccumulation make mercury one of the environmental pollutants that have attracted global attention. The most severe mercury poisoning incident in history is considered to be the Minamata disease incident in Japan, where hundreds of people died due to mercury contamination of Minamata Bay's water. Since 2013, the Japanese government has learned its lesson and required all discarded fluorescent lamps to undergo toxic substance treatment, thereby requiring consumers who purchase regular fluorescent lamps to pay double the price to cover the cost of this toxic substance treatment.
